The Photography Show 2018 - Your Guide to All the Talks

 The photography show 2018 guide

The Photography Show returns to the NEC in Birmingham this March for it's annual carnival of all things photography, and this year is lining up to be bigger and better than ever.

Not only are all your favourite brands attending with a bunch of their kit to test out and buy, ranging from DSLR cameras to filter kits to tripods, but there is a huge variety of talks from some of the best photographers on the planet throughout the four days. There really is something to suit everyone at The Photography Show, and with tickets costing under £15 for a day it qualifies as a massive bargain!

What is The Photography Show

The Photography Show is an annual show celebrating anything and everything related to photography, and 2018 will mark it's fifth year hosting at the massive NEC Centre in Birmingham.

It really does have something for every kind of photographer, with demos and conference sessions with your favourite photography brands and a host of talks and seminars throughout the four days of the show.

It's the biggest show of it's kind in the UK, and is supported by pretty much every major photography publication on the market. You can see some of the highlights of last year below.

When is The Photography Show 2018?

The NEC opens it's doors to thousands of photography enthusiasts on Saturday 17th March and runs until 5pm on Tuesday 20th March.

How Much Do Tickets Cost?

It would be easy for the organisers to up the price for such a popular event, but fortunately for us they've maintained a very budget friendly ticket cost.

Advance tickets cost just £13.95 for adults and £10.95 for concessions and students. Additionally, there's a discount for purchasing tickets for multiple days.

There are additional charges for certain aspects of The Photography Show, with all conferences, masterclasses, and Super Stage talks requiring an additional fee. There are still dozens of talks that are included in the price of entry though!

You can buy tickets directly from The Photography Show website here.

What Are the Highlights?

This all depends on what type of photographer you are, but with talks, masterclasses, and countless stalls with some of the leading names in the photography world there is something for everyone. But who knows what they're looking forward to more than the attendees themselves?

Steve Partner

Professional commercial, product, and portrait photographer based in North East Wales. Find Steve here and here.

"I am looking forward to visiting the Photography Show for many reasons. Like many of the photographers that I know, I love a gadget and a new product and what better place to spend my hard-earned cash being tempted by the latest technology from all the leading brands, demos of the latest kit and seeing 250 exhibitors! Photography heaven!

I am also experimenting again with film and have invested in a medium format film camera so will see if there is any interesting information to help me re-learn film techniques.

I am looking forward to hearing Damian McGillicuddy as I have worked with him on a couple of studio and location-based shoots and he is a real innovator especially in lighting set up and well worth a listen if you get the opportunity.

But generally, I am looking to get inspired by these wonderful speakers and to rekindle my enthusiasm to get out there, to try new things and to innovate."

Matt Holland

Matt is a full-time creative with a passion for the outdoors, based in Berkshire, UK. You can find Matt here.

"At this year's Photography Show UK I am looking forward to meeting more brands and likeminded creatives. The line up for speakers this year looks great, I'm particularly looking forward to seeing Thomas Heaton and Alyn Wallace talk."

What's the Schedule for The Photography Show?

Obviously there's a wide range of photography genres covered in this show, and not every talk or stand will be of interest to every photographer. Additionally, it requires a bit of planning to determine the best day(s) to attend and where you need to be at what time.

Fortunately for you, that's what we're here for! We've compiled a list and schedule of everything going on, broken down into separate photography genres. Just pick the one that suits your photography style the most and follow that!

For the schedule the times are shown on the left, and on the right is the theatre or stage that they're taking place. After you've cemented a schedule for yourself you can then visit the exhibitions and stands in between talks, and with over 100 stands you're unlikely to struggle with boredom!

See You There!

Obviously it will be impossible for you to visit every talk that's happening, but whittling it down into your favoured genres should make planning the event a much more manageable experience.

The talks are a massive part of The Photography Show, but with literally hundreds of exhibitors also in the NEC make sure to leave some time to browse around and see what's on offer. You can even try out new gear on your own camera on many of the stands.

Let us know if you're heading to the show this year and what you're most looking forward to in the comments or via one of our social media channels below!
